It was started in the 1964/5 season, by Mrs. Simons, a dinner lady, who wanted something for local lads to do. The name Bardwell stems from Bardwell Terrace, where she used to live. She ran the Club single handedly until retiring from the newly formed committee in 2001. She is now honoured as life-president in recognition of her commitment to the Club and to the game of football. Each year she sponsors an annual tournament at the end of the season, where a shield is kept by the winners for the whole year, and medals awarded to runners up. Some of the boys who played in those early days are now managers of teams of their own. Such is the loyalty that the Club likes to encourage.
